A Rose for Rose

February 25, 2006
Hammurabi’s Code said
“An eye for an eye
A tooth for a tooth!”
I say
“A Rose for a Rose”
Here is a Rose for a Rose from my Garden

The edge of Doom? I wonder what Shakespeare meant in this sonnet..

Sonnet CXVI
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments, love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O No! it is an ever-fixed mark,
T hat looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come,
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out to the edge of doom:
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ or no man ever loved.
William Shakespeare, 1564-1616

In any case I love Shakespeare’s Sonnets!

We grow great by dreams – A quote by Woodrow Wilson

February 18, 2006
We grow great by dreams.
All big men are dreamers.
They see things in the soft haze of a spring day
or in the red fire of a long winter’s evening.
Some of us let these great dreams die,
but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days
till they bring them to the sunshine and light
which comes always to those
who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
Thus wrote one of the finest presidents of the USAWoodrow Wilson
The demoninlove has reflected on this and thinks (maybe)…..
Perhaps some of us are not destined for greatness, because
we let our dreams die………
Perhaps some of us are not destined for greatness, because
we let other’s dreams die …………
And perhaps some of us are not destined for greatness, because
we love those who let us kill our dreams ………..
Or perhaps some of us are not destined for greatness, because
we love those who themselves kill our dreams ………..
So why do dreams not come true, even for those who
sincerely hope their dreams will come true one day ???

Sailing into the Sunset – A painting by DEEPAK MENON

February 14, 2006

And an immortal excerpt from “Ulysees by Alfred Lord Tennyson”
Come My Friends
Its not too late to seek a newer world
Push off, and sitting well in order
Smite the sounding furrows
For my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset
And the baths of all the western stars
Until I die
It may be that the gulfs shall wash us down
It may be that we shall reach the happy isles
And meet the great Achilles
Whom we knew
Though much is taken
Much abides
And though we are now not that strength
That in days of old
Moved Earth and Heaven
That what we are – we are
One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate
But strong in will
To strive
To seek
To find
And not to yield!
Maybe one of us will sail into the Sunset one day…..

The stage was set on Kill Devil Hill
For the Greatest Act of the human race
The actors – two – of indomitable will
Entered with firm and determined face.
In All of Kitty Hawk there were five
Who arrived as audience on that day.
Four men, one boy made up the five
Who saw man leave the earth that day.
Wilbur Wright, the elder of the two,
Stepped back and gestured Oriville in
To the Strangest Contraption ever seen
Made of canvas, wires, rubber and tin.
Wilbur stepped up and pulled the string
The Homemade Engine to life came
Oriville gently accelerated to bring
Around the nose of the Airplane.
The propeller whirled true and fast
The ‘ FLYER ‘started its bumpy run
Faster and still faster till at last
Against the Earth it’s battle it won
Lurching like a drunkard on the road
It staggered into the air at last
Carrying with it- its 340 KG load
And the Future of the World recast.
Forever will the World be justly proud
Of the Brothers WILbur and OriVILLE
Who had the vision to scatter the cloud
And subjugate the sky to Free Mans Will
